Devon Counties officials update – March 2007

•       By now all Devon officials should have received their Summer availability letter. Please try and support your county. We really need all of you otherwise events may have to be cancelled. If you haven’t yet replied then please do so as soon as possible.

•        From January 1st we should all be using the new levels not grades. This should be shown on your UKA officials pass which you should have by now. If you haven't got a pass,  its probably because you didn't send off your transfer form. This was a form with a photograph which should have been sent direct to UKA. There is still time however, if you need a form please let me know. You do need to do this by the start of the season. otherwise you will not be treated  as a qualified official and therefore not be covered by the UKA insurance.

•       If you are keen on becoming an athletic official then your opportunity has arrived. We have organised a level 2 course aimed at people who have either done the level i course or have some experience. In the level 2 course, you need to decide which discipline you wish to qualify in. the options are Starter/Marksman, Track, Field, or Timekeeper. The course will be held at Exeter Harriers Club House from 10 – 3 on Saturday April 14th. Cost is £10 which includes a Rule book. Applications through South West office on www.englandathletics.org/south-west/officials/.

•       You can still qualify as a endurance official (the minimum level is 2 which can be gained through providing your experience to the county or attending a course which can be organised by Paul Ross, your county road running secretary. You may also be able to be graded at level 3 or 5. This would depend on your experience and has to be approved by the territory. (SEAA).

•       There will a course on EDM (Electronic Distance Measurement) at Exeter on 31st March. We are very fortunate to get this course in the region and it is opportunity we do not get very often. If you would lie to attend then please let me know.
