Welcome to the DCAA

"WHAT'S HAPPENED"

Firstly, my apologies, for the lateness in updating, “What’s Happened” and “What’s Happening” in the Devon County athletic scene.
In Track and Field the Commonwealth Games took place in October in Delhi India and despite the negative publicity from the UK media it went successfully especially for Devon’s Katherine Endacott  who came back home with a Gold medal in the 4 x 100m relay and after a dramatic 100m went from fourth place to the Silver medal.  North Devon’s Javelin thrower Issy Jeffs had her first major international experience with a late call up and gained valuable experience at this level

.
For Devon County the notable track and field success was to retain our overall trophy in the South West Inter counties held at Exeter Arena on Sunday August 8th 2010.
We are now half way through the cross Country season and so far the weather has been kinder with no cancellation of fixtures.  The Devon County championships were held in December in good weather conditions resulting in some keen racing.  Teams were selected for the South West Inter counties held at Bicton on January 9th and again the sun shone especially on the Devon teams who won several of the age groups.
Indoor Sports hall athletics started early October at Dawlish and as usual has seen 180 – 200 youngsters competing at each of the fixtures.  Last week was the regional Under 11 “Fun in Athletics” event at Clennon Valley and Devon’s two teams took the honours with first and second place.

  “WHATS HAPPENING”

The road running scene is its usual hive of activity and next month is the Plymouth Hoe 10 which again incorporates the Devon and Cornwall team challenge.
In March we have the UK Inter counties Cross Country at Cofton Park Birmingham and teams are now being selected and we wish them well in this high standard event.
In February the Under 13 and 15 regional Sports Hall finals take place at Clennon Valley and if any of Devon’s team win then they will go onto the National Finals in Birmingham.
The Track and Field season starts in April with several early season meetings leading up to the Devon County championships at Exeter Arena on May 13th and 14th.

Devon County AA, are, in partnership with Devon Schools and Exeter Harriers actively looking to purchase Photo finish and Electronic timing for use at the Exeter Arena possibly in time for the County championships
